Hadow Family Origins

Using the records I have found, I’ve compiled a timeline of all the towns where the Hadow family lived in Prussia.

Usch-Neudorf, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Birth of Michael Hadow, 1821
Walkowicz, Kreiz Czarnikau, Posen, Prussia – Birth of Rosalie Floerke 1823
Miroslaw, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Rosalie Floerke in city registry 1845
Moslitz, Prussia – Birth of Johann Hadow, 1848
Plottke, Deutsch Krone, Posen, Prussia – Birth of Emilie Hadow, 1856
Byschke, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Birth of Alwine Hadow, 1865
Wilhelmshöhe, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Emily Hadow marriage, 1879
Wilhelmshöhe, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – City registry, 1880
Miroslaw, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Birth of Agnes Willegal, 1880
Walkowicz, Kreiz Czarnikau, Posen, Prussia – Johann Hadow passenger list 1880
Wilhelmshöhe, Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia – Alwine Hadow passenger list, 1881

All these towns can be found highlighted on the map below except for “Moslitz”.  This is the town mentioned in the obituary of Johann Hadow as his town of birth, but I’ve not been able to find a town by this name anywhere in Prussia.  I’m guessing his family misremembered or misspelled the town when they wrote his obituary.

About cthomas1967

Seeking to bring my ancestors out of the shadows of history and into the light. I have always been interested in history, and at a few different times I tried to do a family tree, but wasn't able to do it with the technology that was available then. On a business trip I visited the World War I Museum in Kansas City, MO and it was a very impressive establishment. While I was there I remember thinking, "Didn't my great-grandfather father fight in World War I? And wasn't his brother killed alongside him in some famous battle? I wonder if I can find out where he died." That's what started it all. View all posts by cthomas1967
