Old Photos of Schönlanke in Prussia

I found a collection of old photographs of the town of Schönlanke in Netzekreis, Prussia.  This was the closest town to where many of my Schmidt and Winkelmann relatives lived in the 1880s and 1890s.

The Lutheran (Evangelical) church is prominent in several of them.

Carl Friedrich Schmidt married Wilhelmine Winkelmann in Schönlanke, so that church may very well be where they were married in 1859.

There are many photos of city life and city sites.  The photos seem to range from around 1890 to about 1940.  Several of them show, for example, “Adolf Hitler Street”, which I assume did not exist prior to about 1936.  There are also some photos of the beautiful lakes and countryside around the town itself.

About cthomas1967

Seeking to bring my ancestors out of the shadows of history and into the light. I have always been interested in history, and at a few different times I tried to do a family tree, but wasn't able to do it with the technology that was available then. On a business trip I visited the World War I Museum in Kansas City, MO and it was a very impressive establishment. While I was there I remember thinking, "Didn't my great-grandfather father fight in World War I? And wasn't his brother killed alongside him in some famous battle? I wonder if I can find out where he died." That's what started it all. View all posts by cthomas1967
